The concept of the project “Paths to Mastery” is unique in Europe. It offers a mentorship programme aimed at young people aged 14-18 who are musically talented but come from culturally disadvantaged areas with modest financial and material means. These young people will be guided for two years. They will thus have the opportunity to study with professors from renowned music faculties across Europe and lay the foundation for a successful artistic career.
The first meeting of the “Paths to Mastery” project will take place between 20 – 29 October 2024 and is dedicated to pianists and chamber music with piano, including violin and cello. Student-instrumentalists from Romania will participate in this gathering under the auspices of the Faculty of Music in Cologne. Pianist Andreas Frölich, a professor at this faculty, will instruct young pianists in repertoire details, while pianist-composer André Parfenov, a lecturer at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Music Academy, will offer students the opportunity to refine their stylistics, improvisation, and accompaniment skills. Violinist Iuliana Münch, together with André Parfenov, will instruct the chamber music ensembles. Internationally renowned Romanian cellist Răzvan Suma, from the Faculty of Music in Bucharest, will lead the courses for cellists.
